What is the full form of RC?

The full form of RC is a Registration Certificate. The Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC), commonly known as the Registration certificate (RC), is an official vehicle document. A copy of an RC is a document that proves registration with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) authorities. It includes the relevant information on the vehicle's owner as well as technical specifications. The government of India has made carrying a copy of the RC while driving a vehicle essential. Previously, registration certificates were handwritten and had a number of pages, and were referred to as RC books, but currently, registration certificates may be obtained in the form of a Smart card.

How To Get an RC Book or RC Smart Card?

Every vehicle owner (whether private or non-commercial) must register his vehicle at the local RTO office. The car is inspected by an inspecting authority at the RTO/zonal office as part of the registration procedure.

You can also register your vehicle with a motor vehicle dealer who has registration authority. In this instance, self-registration dealers will only give the car to the consumer after it has been registered.

Features of the RC Book

  • Any motorised vehicle's RC (Registration Certificate) serves as an official declaration of registration.

  • According to the place where the vehicle is intended to be used, the Motor Vehicles Act mandates that all motor vehicles in India be registered with the registering authorities.

  • Without a current registration certificate, a vehicle cannot be used in any public area in the nation. A private or non-commercial vehicle's registration certificate (RC) is valid for 15 years after the date of registration.

  • Following that, the registration certificate must be renewed every five years. All cars, regardless of brand, manufacture, or model, are required to be registered under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The Process to Apply for the RC Book/RC Smart Card

Auto dealers are allowed to complete a new vehicle registration in India on the owner's behalf. The car is only handed to the customer when registration is complete, which is done by the dealer. The buyer of the car also has the option of registering it by visiting the local RTO. After checking all the paperwork and examining the car, the registering authority issues the vehicle Registration certificate (RC) and assigns a vehicle registration number. The paperwork that must be supplied for Indian automobile registration is listed below.

  1. Using CMV Form 20 as an application

  2. Form 22 delivered by the vehicle's maker

  3. Form 21 was given by the vehicle's dealer

  4. Insurance Card for a Vehicle

  7. The registration charge for vehicles

  8. One-time receipt for road taxes

  9. The dealer's receipt for the vehicle
