The "Bamboo Oasis on Lands in Drought" (BOLD) initiative, which was inaugurated on July 4th, 2021 from the tribal community of Nichla Mandwa in Udaipur, Rajasthan, is the first of its kind in India.
Project BOLD is an innovative scientific endeavour that supports the dual national goals of halting desertification and fostering multidisciplinary rural industry. Its objectives are to increase tribe members' incomes and address environmental issues. It is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposal for establishing bamboo-based green patches of land in dry and semi-arid zones to reduce land degradation and stop desertification in the nation. It was introduced as a part of KVIC's "Khadi Bamboo Festival" to commemorate "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav," which marks 75 years of freedom.
It will aid in lowering the percentage of land degradation in the nation.
It will be a shelter for food security and sustainable development. You may read more about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) here.
The Udaipur bamboo plantation scheme will increase local self-employment.
It will help a lot of women and young people without jobs in the area by connecting them to programmes for skill development.
Locals and tribal men and women may be able to make a living by manufacturing handicrafts such as bamboo furniture, home items, paper, bags, and purses, to name a few.
Locals will save money by using bamboo for construction needs instead of wood, bricks, or steel.
