Yes you need to do the verification as you will receive an OTp based on mobile number submission. If you havent received an OTp you need to contact IIT Madras via mail statung uour concern and share all applications details.

You need to appear in 2018 and also add 2018 as year of completion although you have backlogs. 

You need to get certificate from college principal that you appeared last semester in 2018 although you hav ebacklogs pending.

Chances are there that they may not consider and hemce you shpuld add all relevance and authentic information onky which can be used for document verification. Incase you entered wrong information you shoukd edit the GATE application form in correction window.
