Generally,the rank list preparation is based on seat availability,category belonged,competition level and of course marks...May be the candidate is under any reservations like Ex-servicemen,physically challenged,scheduled castes which also determines the rank list preparation.

The ranking cannot be solely determined by your KCET marks and board marks. There are a lot of criteria such as category, gender, state of domicile, etc. which are taken into consideration while coming up with the rank list by institutions and authorities, You would have seen many rank cutoff

To get admission in UVCE(Civil Engineering) you have to get a rank within 17000. Since your rank is 20000 in kcet your chances are not that high (if you are from general category) However it is expected that this year the cutoff for BE Civil Engineerijng can go
KCET rank will be calculated by considering the performances in KCET and QE (qualifying examination) as well.I will explain with an example ,let us assume that u have scored 131/180 in KCET and 288/300 in QE,then your % marks in KCET is 72.77% and in QE it is 96% now
