Your rank is bit good.As per the previous year cutoffs you have a less chance of getting the call from the PSUs as you have the advantage of ST category.The PSUs which may call you are IOCL,ONGC,NHAI,etc.If you don't get a call then you should prefer to take

first of all in any psu interview gate score  play a vital role. the more you score the higher the chances of getting selected. four things impact on getting a job in any psu gate score, number of seats available, percentage of graduation and interview. the score differs year

It's totally depends on the stream you have opted in GATE. 

Have a quick view on the qualifying marks in different streams in GATE to get into PSU:-

1. HPCL(2018): ME - 68.45, Civil - 70.04, Electrical - 58.64.

2. NPCIL(2018): ME - 836, Chemical - 790, EE - 819

The GATE Toppers mostly prefer getting job in PSU LIKE BHEL etc. 

Most of the candidates gives gate for PSU. 

those who miss PSU go for IITS. 

Or thise are really interested in Mtech or doing PHD they go for higher studies.

There are many PSUs recruiting through GATE and providing good pay scale. Their cutoff vary accoiding to the number of vacancies. Most of the PSUs conduct their separate interview after shortlisting through Gate. Some might not take.
