AMU doesnt offer Civil engineering in distance mode unfortunately. 

You can however try with IiME Munbai, School of distance education Andhra Universty  , karnataka state open University, wisdoem school of management for Civilengineering in distance mode.

AMU is all about speed and accuracy so If you are well prepared for JEE Main you can easily crack AMU entrance exam. You can prefer NCERT books to clear your basic concepts.
Apart, from NCERT you can refer HC Verma for physics, OP tandon for chemistry and RD Sharma

yes you can get admission in AMU for what we call it lateral entry fill the lateral entry form by time . there is little procedure for that like you have to take NOC from your previous clg which is difficult to get and if you are not able to

If you are completed the diploma you can go for the lateral entry in second year of b.tech.

Many students will join the b.tech in second year of the b.tech .

Because they completed diploma( polytechnic) it is an very good way to join the b.tech
