Arpita Goon 11th Mar, 2019

Dear Dipanshi,

Thank you for sharing your query with us I would like to help you out with providing complete details about this.

I'm assuming that you have specific interests in drawing and are on the creative side, that way amination is one of the best way to boost your creativity. You can go for many courses in animation field from professional to multimedia animation, and can choose according to your preference.

Let me start by giving you some idea about animation, it is a system of bringing characters to life by using several techniques. Static pictures are changed in ways that make them appear to be moving.

You will learn the specifications of these by enrolling into your desired course. But first there are some essential qualities that you need to posess.

These include:

  • Drawing or sketching skills
  • Creativity
  • Passion and determination to succeed.
  • Patience till the completion of any task
  • Careful detailing
  • Ability to use computer and software functions.

The Animation courses in India are of several types here is the divison:

  • Bachelor's Degree course
  • Diploma course
  • Certificate course

Now each of these are different from one another and have various sub-categories under it.

1. Bachelor's Degree Courses:

  • B.A in Animation and Multimedia
  • B.A in Animation and CG Arts
  • B.A in Animation and Graphic Design
  • B.A in Digital Filmmaking and Animation
  • Bachelor of Visual Arts
  • B.sc. in Animation and Multimedia
  • B.sc in Animation and VFX
  • B.sc. in Animation and Gaming

Since you asked for the steps after class 12th I would advise you to opt for any of the above mentioned courses.

The duration of the courses is of 3 years and you will get an bachelors degree.

The eligibility for it is generally the candidates who have passed 12th. There can be a minimum marks alloted which is generally around 50%

There are other diploma and certificate Courses of less duration, but a Bachelor's Degree will be the most suitable for you.

There are also ample career opportunities that you can find in this field. Make sure you start looking at colleges and giving entrances. For more queries you can always ask us.

Best of luck.

Cheers,

Arpita Goon.

Should I go for BSC in Animation and VFX or Bachelor in Animation ?

Deepshikha Student Expert 18th Feb, 2019
Well,it all depends upon your calling.
Since you have dropped out of engineering after having studied it for say, more than three years so it's quite obvious that you must be looking for alternatives.By this time, you must have become aware of the fact that every discipline requires different approach and dedication. If your are not passionate about something you won't get it at last. So think up wisely why you want to go in the field of Animation and for heaven's sake do what you genuinely want to do as "Time and Tide waits for none".
I am going to give you  brief detail about the course and you can decide on accordingly.
You can understand Animation as a technique infusing life to characters and let's get this straight that you can't do anything in this arena if you do not have a creative appetite and sharp attitude. This field gives you the luxury of making people enjoy with yout work.Remember, all those cartoon and movies involving CGI and how people partake of the fun that it offers.
B.Sc in Animation and VFX is a three year undergraduate programme and the basic eligibility criteria is to have passed 12th from a recognised board with 60% marks in aggregate or 55% for SC/ST.The admission for this course is either through merit or your performance in the respective entrance exams of the college followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview. This course prepares you to play with designed images in the most creative way possible. There are various colleges that offer specialisation in this field like Birla Institute of Technology,Vellore Institute of Technology,Picasso Animation College,Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology besides some more.
Having done your Bachelors in this field you may get the job of Graphic Designer,Web Designer,Multimedia Programmer,3D modeler or2D/3D Animator with a package of around 2.5-4.5 lacks which may increase depending upon an individual's talent and then there is no looking back.
This field may look lucrative and easy but it is not so.Your creativity and patience will help you sustain in this field.
Hope it helps you to decide on whether you should give it a shot or not.
Good luck.
