Which is better for anthropology, for UPSC exams?

Abhijit_1514089823 Student Expert 21st Feb, 2019

Hi Bille Nunkesh !

Anthropology is the study of man in totality including studying all kinds of societies and culture such as tribal and modern societies-their socio-culture institutions viz. marriage, family, kinship, economic institution, political system and belief pattern such as religion and magic. Anthropology also deals with prehistoric and modern societies i.e. socio-cultural evolution. Apart from these, Anthropology studies man as a creature i.e. studying origin and evolution of man and their physical variations from place to place. Thus, the syllabus of anthropology optional has been well maintaining the tradition i.e. holism. Whereas, other social sciences deal with man in a peace meal manner e.g. history studies past event of man, sociology deals with social structure of man not biological aspect of man at all, while economics & political science dealing with economic and political institution respectively.Choosing a best optional subject is a big deal for candidates. The Anthropology is a good choice as an optional for IAS Exam. But it depends on how much focus you put on understanding the concept. The subject is a science-oriented one. So, while answering the question for Civil service mains examination the answers should be stick to the point and crispy. One should add diagrams, flow chart wherever needed. To write a perfect answer one should have to practice answer writing and get evaluated. A self-assessment is essential before appearing any examination. The most recent syllabus is more scoring in nature.

Dear sir I am pursuing B.A sociology and social anthropology in last year. I want to do mba please help me?

Victoria Grase 19th Feb, 2019

Hi aspirant,
As per your query, it seems that you are currently pursuing undergraduate degree in sociology and wish to pursue MBA after completing your graduation.
So as per your profile you may surely pursue MBA, as in order to pursue full time MBA or PGDM program you need to be GRADUATE in ANY FIELD with atleast 50% marks in graduation, plus you need to take various management entrance test like CAT, MAT, XAT, SNAP, etc.
However, it is always advisable to work for 2-3 years after completing graduation and then opting for MBA, the advantage of this step would be that after working for few years you would know which specialization to opt in MBA that can further enhance your career prospects.
This work experience of yours would give you competitive advantage over other candidates with no work experience during MBA admission.
Finally if you work for some years then you may yourself manage the expenses for your further studies.
Please note that, the final selection in MBA or PGDM program is made on the basis of:
1. Education background of the students.
2. Score in various management entrance test.
3. Performance in group discussions and personal interview.
4. Work experience if any.
5.opt for Bhai schools which are very helpful and gud institution for your career.
All the best
Thank you
