I would suggest a laptop with i7 processor, at least 8 GB RAM (16 GB will of course be much better), a graphic card (preferably NVIDIA) of at least 2GB, storage capacity of minimum 500GB (trust me, 1TB is most suitable). And rest, more 3.0 USB ports etc.

The percentile you  mentioned will have general rank around 8200. And NIT trichy closed before 1550 for HS and before 800 for OS , last year.

So it seems that you have very low chances for getting seat in NIT trichy.
