Yes you can take up Automobiles engineering from top colleges. Good scope is expected however very niche roles are offered. With Make In India program lifted up tgere will be better production and innovation in Automobiles industries and hence good demand expected. 

Also you need to have good functional expertise

There is decent scope for skilled Automobile Engineers. Job roles offered to them are designing, development and manufacturing of vehicles. They can also work as maintenance and services engineers in automobile workshops, aircraft industries, etc.

IIT is certainly best an dmost coveted institute with national importance and all older IIT Like Delhi, Munbai, Kharagpur, Guwahati,, Gandhingar, Madras, are some if topnotch for placements, faculty and learning methodology with an average package well above 4.5lpa every year  And having global recognition . 

Automobiles engineering under Mechanical engineering disciplines is not alloweed for ISRO. 

Also students must have minimum 65% aggregate marks in all semesters in Btech.

Mechanical engineering is much better due to wider scope across PSU and Private sector and mor e opportunities and roles like Supplychain, Operations  Logistics, Procurement, Bid and Project management, Manufacturing and. Design. 

Civilengineering has limited scope across design and Urban planning, structural mechanics and Maintenance roles. 

When you are joining B tech after diploma you need to take BE entrance exam.

At the time of counseling you will get a chance to opt for computer engineering or mechanical engineering. But only option of computer engineering you will able to select not all branches.
