For being eligible for the GATE examination, you must have a bachelor's degree in engineering, irrespective of the branch you chose, or, you must be a graduate in any of the science subjects. So. you cannot appear in GATE examination unless you're a graduate.

The syllabus for almost all the colleges are same or similar for the 1st semester in the same branch on engineering, be it an IIT or other private college. They teach the same subjects and have almost same chapters in them. They might differ in the division
