CGC, Mohali is a good college to pursue B.Tech in CSE. But, CGC Landran is not that much better for CSE branch. If we talk of B.Tech ECE at PU Patiala, then I would say its a decent college to study ECE as the faculty of ECE department

Yes, in every engineering colleges in India the students of first year study the same subjects except the one which is branch specific. The branch specific is generally taught from second year onwards but in some colleges like mine it is taught as early as from first semester.

You can get most of the books if the author is a foreigner. for Indian author, it is hard to get. you can get notes from lecture notes official webpage.

You will get mostly 70-80% of books online. for rest of the book either you have to buy else
