I am a student of BA (sociology). I want to take english literature for pg. can i take it? if i can then tell me about entrance exam and suggest books and resources for entrance exam.

pdwords Student Expert 12th Mar, 2022
Hello,

Yes, you can go for MA English, however the eligibility criteria differs among universities for example in BHU it's compulsory to have studied the required subject at graduation level for all the three years, or Hons should be pursued in the subject, in order to seek MA in the concerned language, however in JNU there is no such restrictions, so you have to check the eligibility criteria prior to applying, generally speaking the entrance syllabus of pg is based on ug syllabus only, if you intend to appear for JNUEE then you need to have 50% aggregate in graduation in any discipline from a recognized University,  when it comes to the syllabus you need to be well acquainted with Literature in English, India and other Parts of the World, English in India, literary and cultural theories, non-literary artistic forms, the relationship between literature, culture and society, and practical criticism of given literary pieces. Go through previous year paper in order to know more about exam pattern, marking scheme, important topics, weightage, this will help you in analyzing the preparation level.

Can you suggest some best books to develop our english knowledge for beginners?

Moumoyee Chakraborty 29th Jan, 2022

Dear applicant when it comes to learn beginners English book you can refer to your own grammar text books or there are plenty other good books available on the website of Amazon or Flipkart. Like there is a beginner's book written under the title of Cambridge University, author is Raymond Murphy. Not Only that there is one vocabulary skill book available on Flipkart published by Arihant Publication and there are other books too which you can follow but if it's from any foreign publication, it would be more feasible.

Good luck!!
