As per your question let me tell you that there are some branches in IITs NITs iiits which are very less popular among students like metallurgical engineering chemical engineering etc . These branches have lower percentile criteria. More than these two there are various other branches also..

You can apply for XAT Entrance Exam as there is no any minimum score restriction in the qualifying exam. But Generally a good reputated colleges require minimum 50% in Graduation. I would suggest you to get a very high percentile so that It can help you to recover your qualifying

It depends on Crash Course Like Entrance Exam or Bachelor Degree.
Mostly Top University consider Graduation & Entrance 
Exam Result for shortlisting.
But some university want students should be Academically Strong for Further Studies.
