You have not mentioned your category to which you belong to.Based on 2018 cut off trends you may get seat in Chemical engineering if you belong to any of SC or ST or BC-E category.As the cut off for SC- was 67883 ST was 71425 BC-E was 43925.And

Before answering to what would a practical choice be to go for, i would strongly recommend you to go for the branch you like the most and have genuine interest in it, and you are ready to work independently in it as both the branches are entirely opposite

Jadavpur university is definitely a good place to go if you are willing to pursue engineering. Top notch companies such as HSBC bank,reliance petroleum, ZS associates etc. participate in the recruitment process with more than 90% placement. So you can definitely go there.

Chemical engineering is amongst the best departments in terms of core engineering in Jadavpur University. It is even better than the NIT s and some of the IITs.

Its placement scenario is also very good, above standards in terms of pay package and career prospects. The companies come for placements

BE chemical engineering from Jadavpur University is a good option. They've got very good academics and decent placements.
