Hello,
Firstly it's all about your preference, if you're interested in management field as a career then MBA is great choice provided you do it from a reputed institute with good infrastructure, faculty, alumni and most importantly placements and ROI should be good enough, so these are some of the factors you have to keep in mind, now government jobs have their own schedule of exams for recruitment of jobs, it does take considerable amount of time, to take coaching or to not take coaching is your call, there are many candidates who qualify exams without coaching, and moreover it depends you're appearing for which specific government exams, I mean with MBA , if you're preparing for UPSC then it's quite tough as both have different syllabus, however UPSC toppers come from diverse backgrounds that of engineering, medical, commerce etc, so you have to put in extra efforts on your part, other than this if you're aiming for banking and insurance exams then it's comparatively easier for you as you come from management backgrounds, and these specific domains have ample opportunities for MBA candidates, the competition is also fierce for government jobs, and patience is required in this case, you have to know what are the specific jobs you're aiming for, as the exam pattern, syllabus, and stages vary, if you wish to have back up plan then you can consider doing MBA first, and then follow it up by appearing for government jobs, if you get placement in college then there will be a security, and if you're not at all interested in management field, then don't go for MBA, choose another route, eventually it's your life and you have to decide what's appropriate for you.
