IPMAT is more like a reasoning test and not an academic test. The exams tests your analytical thinking more than your bookish knowledge.
There is nothing like baby steps. The more early you start the more easy it will be for you to ace the exam. The reasoning doesn't require you to learn much but practising will definitely help you in understanding the format and approach to solve the questions.
