Yes. If you have bachelor's degree in any discipline then you are eligible to apply for CAT even it's Honor's in  Engineering or Science, Arts, Commerce and Medical.

To give CAT exam you need 50% IN GRADUATION and no more tough guidelines. Thus you become eligible to give exam.

Basically if you are aiming at top colleges like IIM's then yes your past academic records are considered.
Not all exams consider your academic records but IIM's do.

Go for a arun sharma books for all 3 sections and it will be most helpful especially for beginners but time taking  ,  only prefer books if you are keen otherwise prefer any online stuff or classroom coaching
