Students who want to continue their education in technology after polytechnic can choose between the two choices. Students can enter a B. Tech programme through an engineering entrance test or a lateral admission exam.

If a student enrolls via lateral entry, they will be admitted immediately to the second year of the B. Tech programme. One must keep in mind that the lateral entrance test is a state-level test. However, there is no lateral access in the IITs.

Through national or state level engineering entrance exams, students who want to pursue a B. Tech following polytechnic can also enroll in B. Tech programmes. Students must take the JEE test or one of the many state-level admission exams.
