Is it good to do bsc computer science from government colleges

SEJAL JAIN 11th Oct, 2025

Hello

Doing a BSc in Computer Science from a government college can be a great choice. Government colleges often offer quality education at a much lower fee compared to private ones. You’ll get access to experienced professors and decent infrastructure. Plus, the degree from a recognized government college is widely accepted by employers. However, check if the college has good placements and an updated course curriculum. Overall, it’s a good option

Can 87% in 10 standard get admission in diploma in It (computer engineering)?

Saurabh Yadav 9th Apr, 2025

Hii,

You got 87% in your 10th standard, and that’s really good. Most diploma courses in IT (Computer Engineering) take students based on their 10th marks only. You don’t need to give any entrance exam for it in many states. So yes, with 87%, you can easily get admission in a good government or private polytechnic college.

Now, here’s what usually happens:
Each college has a number of seats, and they prepare a list based on the marks of students who apply. This is called a merit list. Since you have 87%, your name will likely come on that list. In fact, you’ll probably be near the top because your marks are higher than many students.

But remember, it also depends on:

  • How many students applied

  • Which college you are applying to (some popular ones fill fast)

  • Your category (like General, OBC, SC/ST, etc.), because seats are divided

Still, in most cases, 87% is more than enough for diploma in IT. Just make sure to fill out the application form correctly, choose a few good colleges, and submit everything before the deadline. If you do that, you have a very good chance of getting admission.

And once you get in, you’ll study computer basics, programming, networking, software, and more. After completing the diploma (usually 3 years), you can get a job or even go for further studies like B.Tech.

My rank in JEE is 18000, I have got Vellore Computer science in the first round category 2, Should i go ahead and block the seat or wait for the JoSAA counselling. What are the prospects

Lalit Kumar 23rd Nov, 2024

Dear

According to the information blocking the seat now would secure your spot at Vellore, which is a reputable institution with strong academic programs and good placement records. However, if you're open to exploring other options, JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling might offer you a chance to get into an NIT or IIIT, which could also be excellent choices.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Vellore : If you're happy with Vellore and it's your top choice, blocking the seat would be a safe bet.

  • JoSAA Counselling : If you're willing to take a risk for potentially better options, you could wait for JoSAA counselling. However, keep in mind that there's no guarantee you'll get a better offer.

Ultimately, the decision depends on your priorities and preferences. For finding the best college for you you can use College predictor .
