As per the eligibility criteria laid down by various institution; you need a minimum 75% for admission to IITs/NITs/IIITs and for BITS you need 75% in PCM/PCB whereas for candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST/PWD should have a minimum percentage of 65.

Snce his percentage in boards is lesser than the minimum eligiblity of admission in NITs,IITs, i would recommend him to choose some private colleges.There are really good private universities where your son can get admission easily with his JEE score.

Sice you have not mentioned about the exam you are talking about,i am assuming that you are talking about JEE mains.You have a great chance in taking a seat in any NIT.I would suggest you to try till the last round of the counselling.
