Yes, NIT, Surat is a decent enough college for Masters in Science (MSc) in physics. The colleges campus is nice, there are hostel facilities available, the placements seem adequate and the fees is around INR 84,000. Many IT companies such as Infosys, Wipro and CTS are recruiting M.Sc Physics graduates for software jobs. - One can get job in Energy Plants. - One can even apply for jobs in many companies in automobile industry such as Maruti Udyog, TATA Motors and Tech Mahindra. This college is very good because of the placements, good infrastructure, etc. Placements: Placements in our college are good. In nit surat mechanical engineering is best branch among others. I have seen people who had great grades but werent able to get through the written round because they werent serious. So yes, revise your concepts well, before the beginning of placement season, and then take it as one company at a time.

If you want to aim for consultancies or business profile companies, you should be strong in reasoning and quantitative aptitude. Plus, you need to have a knowledge of whats happening around you. It might be politics, economics, tourism, etc. Everything. In addition to that, you should be aware of things like guess-approximation, optimization and most importantly, the company profile.
