First of all, you need to pursue fashion design from a reputed institute. almost all design colleges conduct their own entrance exam. National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is the most sought-after institute for fashion and design studies, and if you can get admission here, then it would be a great step towards your career as a fashion stylist.

To be a designer, firstly you need to pursue a design programme from a good college. National Institute of Design (NID) and National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) are among the top fashion and design institutes in India. They conduct their own entrance exam for various programmes. As of now, you can still fill application form of NIFT as the last date is December 29, 2017. 

Apart from these two, some of the other good design institutes are-

• Symbiosis Institute of Design
• Army Institute of Fashion Design
• Footwear Design and Development Institute
• ARCH Academy of Design  

These institutes also conduct their own entrance tests. 

During the design course, you will be getting a lot of industrial exposure where you can build contacts. Also, you will have to undergo an internship programme during the four years of study. Top design institutes also offer campus placement opportunities where you can get hired. If not, then you will have to try on your own to work under a designer or a brand.

The minimum qualification you require the Bachelor Degree in fashion Merchandising. Several colleges offer two-year degree programs in fashion merchandising, which can provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the industry.
