To be a designer, firstly you need to pursue a design programme from a good college. National Institute of Design (NID) and National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) are among the top fashion and design institutes in India. They conduct their own entrance exam for various programmes. As of now, you can still fill application form of NIFT as the last date is December 29, 2017.
Apart from these two, some of the other good design institutes are-

During the design course, you will be getting a lot of industrial exposure where you can build contacts. Also, you will have to undergo an internship programme during the four years of study. Top design institutes also offer campus placement opportunities where you can get hired. If not, then you will have to try on your own to work under a designer or a brand.
