content to study for fmge exam

Suganya M 25th Apr, 2025

The FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) is a licensing exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) for Indian citizens who have completed their medical education abroad and wish to practice in India. To clear FMGE, you need a solid preparation strategy and must cover the entire MBBS syllabus thoroughly.

Here’s a breakdown of the subjects you need to study :

Pre-clinical Subjects :

  • Anatomy

  • Physiology

  • Biochemistry

Para-clinical Subjects :

  • Pathology

  • Microbiology

  • Pharmacology

  • Forensic Medicine

Clinical Subjects :

  • Medicine (including Dermatology and Psychiatry)

  • Surgery (including Orthopedics and Anesthesia)

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology

  • Pediatrics

  • Ophthalmology

  • ENT

  • Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM)

Tips to Prepare Effectively :

  • Focus on high-yield topics like medicine, surgery, OBG, and PSM since they carry more weightage.

  • Use standard textbooks and reliable MCQ books like FMGE Solutions by Dr. Deepak Marwah, or Mudit Khanna series.

  • Watch FMGE-specific video lectures from platforms like Marrow, Prepladder, or DAMS .

  • Solve previous year papers and take regular mock tests to build confidence and identify weak areas.

  • Make short notes for revision and focus more on clinical understanding than just mugging facts.

The key to cracking FMGE is consistent study, revision, and MCQ practice . Aim to study 8–10 hours a day and make a realistic timetable covering all subjects in rotation.

How can I become a doctor in India without completing my NEET UG? I have completed my medical degree in Belarus and am currently planning to pursue my postgraduate degree in the United Kingdom. Career 360.com clearly states that there are certain exemptions for countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and a few others. There is no requirement to complete FMGE after obtaining a degree from these countries. Its stated in the following webpage of career 360

sadafreen356 21st Apr, 2025

To practice medicine in India without completing NEET UG, you'll need to leverage your medical degree from Belarus and upcoming postgraduate degree from the UK. Since the UK is one of the countries exempt from the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), you might be eligible to practice in India without taking the exam.

Key Requirements:

- Registration in the UK: You'll need to register with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK, which involves verifying your medical degree and completing any necessary exams, such as the PLAB test.

- Specialist Registration: After completing your postgraduate degree in the UK, you'll need to register as a specialist doctor with the GMC. This registration might exempt you from the FMGE requirement in India.¹ ²

- Indian Registration: With your UK specialist registration, you can apply for registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) in India. This might allow you to practice medicine in India without taking the FMGE exam.³

Steps to Consider:

1. Verify your medical degree: Get your medical degree from Belarus verified by the GMC in the UK.

2. Complete your postgraduate degree: Finish your postgraduate degree in the UK and register as a specialist doctor with the GMC.

3. Apply for Indian registration: Submit your application for registration with the NMC in India, providing your UK specialist registration and other required documents.

4. Check with Indian authorities Confirm with the NMC and other relevant authorities in India that you're eligible to practice medicine without taking the FMGE exam.

It's essential to consult with the GMC, NMC, and other relevant authorities to ensure you meet all the requirements. Additionally, consider seeking guidance from a medical professional or a consultant familiar with the registration process for international medical graduates.

I am a a foreign medical student cleared my fmge exam and currently doing my internship I did not received my provisional registration yet I fulfill all the eligibility criteria for inicet exam can I enter my Maharashtra medical council application number in place of provisional registration number

Devanshi Goyal 7th May, 2025

HELLO,

Congratulations on clearing your FMGE and beginning your internship.

regarding the INI-CET (Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test) eligibility:

so to be eligible, you must typically have provisional or permanent registration with MCI/NMC or a state medical council and you need to provide the relevant registration number during the application process.

unfortunately an application number is not equivalent to a provisional registration number because the INI-CET form is very specific they require a valid registration number which confirms that you are officially registered as a medical practitioner with the NMC or a recognized State Medical Council.

Using just your application number may cause your application to be rejected during document verification even if you meet all eligibility criteria.

so what you can do is :

contact MMC immediately to check the status of your provisional registration and request expedited processing if possible.

Reach out to the INI-CET helpdesk or AIIMS exam authorities to ask if there is any temporary provision or alternative documentation they accept if your provisional number is pending.

Hope this helps

I completed my MBBS from Ukraine in 2024, but due to the war, I had limited opportunities for clinical training. I have no plans to give FMGE since I cannot do a three-year internship. Without medical registration in India, what are the best career options I can explore? Im particularly interested in healthcare-related fields that dont require an MBBS license, such as PhD programs, health informatics, and health data science. Suggestions on suitable courses, certifications, or job roles in these fields would be helpful.

Hello Varsha,

Since you have an MBBS from Ukraine and don't plan to give FMGE, you can explore:

  1. Health Informatics and Data Science – MSc, PG Diploma, or certifications in health data science; roles like Health Data Analyst, Clinical Data Manager.

  2. PhD Programs – In Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, or Medical Biotechnology (IITs, AIIMS).

  3. Public Health – MPH or PG Diploma; roles like Epidemiologist, Health Policy Analyst.

  4. Healthcare Management – MBA or PG Diploma; roles like Hospital Administrator, Healthcare Consultant.

  5. Medical Writing and Clinical Research – PG Diploma or certifications; roles like Medical Writer, Clinical Research Associate.

  6. Pharma and Medical Devices – Roles like Drug Safety Associate, Medical Advisor.

  7. Health Tech and AI – AI in Healthcare, Bioinformatics courses; roles like Healthcare AI Specialist.

These fields build on your medical background without requiring a license.

i have lost my NEET 2021 score card which is needed in FMGE form filling , i have already tried to contact NTA,NMC but no replies, but I have the photo of Mail with the qr code which is working and sent by NTA in 2021 on our mail IDs will it work ?

kumardurgesh1802 27th Feb, 2025

Hello Anubhav,

Yes, if the QR code in the email is working and verifies your NEET 2021 score , it might be accepted. However, since NMC requires an official scorecard , it’s best to confirm directly with them.

Here's what You Can Do:

  1. Try downloading from DigiLocker – NTA sometimes uploads NEET scorecards there.

  2. Visit NMC/NTA Office – If emails/calls aren’t working, visiting in person might help.

  3. Use the QR code proof – If they accept digitally verified documents, your email might work.

  4. Submit an affidavit – If nothing works, you may need a legally notarized affidavit stating the loss of your scorecard.

Since FMGE form filling is strict , try to get a written confirmation from NMC via email before submitting.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries then feel free to share your questions with us we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you and wishing you all the best for your bright future.
