Difference between FPM and Ph.D? Want to make career in Academic Line, Having PGDM from AICTE approved college and its not affiliated from AIU. I suppose I am not eligible for NET/ JRF or Ph.D. Can a FPM programme help me out of this or do I have to go for M.phil from any private college?

Hello there,

While IIMs, XLRI, ISB and other stand-alone institutes offer a fellow programme in management ( FPM ), universities and the IITs and NITs offer a ' PhD ' in management. The difference between a PhD and FPM is similar to the distinction between an MBA and PGDM.

This is the eligibility criteria The applicants must have completed master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, etc., from UGC -recognised universities/institutions.

Hello student,

fellow programme in management, fcm is a postgraduate doctoral program which offers students to study in the different fields of Business and Management which is offered by top business schools and IIM. The course is arrange to help the students to make a bright future as lecturers or in research field. For fpm a candidate should have admit 60% marks in his graduation. You should go through the previous year question papers.one must should work on your own interest area for research. You should prepare well for the interview also.

Dear Rahul, these are various programmes offered at various IIMs.

PGP-FABM is a Post Graduate Programme in Food and Agri Business Management course offered in IIM Ahmedabad. The selection of candidates for admission to PGP-FABM at IIM Ahmedabad is a two-step process. In the first step, candidates will be short-listed for Group Discussion and Personal Interviews from among candidates who have applied for the programme and have a valid CAT score and satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme.


PGP stands for Post Graduation Programme in Management

FPM is a Ph.d/Fellowship program for research opportunities. It takes 4 to 6 years to complete this course.


In regards to Selection of IIM Programmes and Cities, you can select any no.of programmes and cities. Make sure you select the same city for Interview across. And for exam centre, you can give 4 options and the authorities will select your exam city for you. So in short, you have to select the programme that you are interesred in that particular IIM
