Dear Student ,

If you have pursued Civil Engineering as your academic curriculum , then the syllabus is almost 90% same as your overall academic syllabus .Still, I'm sharing the major topics that you need to study for GATE exam .

Note : Engineering Mathematics and General Aptitude is necessary to appear for all papers of engg.

Civil Engg GATE syllabus :

if I get 50 to 55 in gate civil engineering is there any chance to get new IIT ( general) IIT BHUBANESWAR or others for environment or water resources engineering?

Akshita Dhiman 20th Jul, 2021

Hello aspirant,

Yes, you have a fair chance of getting the new IIT's. However, I would suggest getting a score of 55+. You should aim for a high score in GATE, as it increases the chances of getting good marks and helps prepare w ell for the exam.

Usually, for civil engineering, or to pursue Mtech in any civil engineering branch a rank below 2000 is good to get into IIT's but if you are targeting top IITs"s then anything below 500 will help you.

Additionally, you could also check the previous year cut off trends

IS 80 marks in GATE is sufficient to M.TECH in specialist in Civil Engineering FROM IIT FOR PRESTIGIOUS NIT i am now 2 nd year and also please suggest me the BEST BOOKS FOR GATE CIVIL ENGINEERING

chandni deb 17th May, 2021

Dear Aspirant,

unfortunately 80 marks in GATE is not sufficient to secure a seat for yourself for your master's degree in any of the IITs or NITs. You will be required to secure a much better score in order to secure a seat at IITs or NITs for your post graduation degree.

Given below are some of the highly recommended textbooks you can use for preparing for GATE exams,

  • Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications by Kenneth Rosen

  • Higher Engineering mathematics - B.S. Grewal
  • Theory of Elasticity - Timoshenko & Gere

  • Soil Mechanics - Gopal Ranjan and Rao,Venkat Ramaiha,S. K. Garg
  • Water Resources - S K Garg

  • Transportation - Justo Khanna
  • Environmental Engineering - S. K. Garg Part I & Part II

  • Surveying (vol. 1,2,3) - B.C.Punmia, Ashok Jain, Arun Jain

kumarabhishek11112001 6th Oct, 2020
Hello aspirant.  If you have studied well in your college then you can prepare yourself but regularly no one study well in their college academics so i suggest go for coaching like if you can pay 1 lakh then made easy is best but if you can't then go for unacademy YouTube channel and prepare with making daily routine according to gate syllabus.

Can a B.Tech/ B.E Chemical Engineering student write the GATE Civil Engineering exam? Will a B.Tech Civil student find GATE easier?

Nikki Nair 9th Mar, 2020

Hello Aspirant

Yes any student from any BTECH branch can write any gate exam for different branch.

Talking of difficulties as we already know that gate is anyways tough. The gate syllabus mostly have questions that are related to that particular branch.Because it is said that if you want to give gate you should be clear with all of the basics right from the beginning of your Engineering.

Therefore there might be a chance that civil students will find that exam more easy that other branch student.

But don't lose hopes there have been cases where Mechanical student have appeared for CS gate and secured an absolute great rank.

All you will need to do is a little bit of extra studies and you will be good to go.

Regards!

my predicted score is 45/100 in gate civil engineering 2020 .Im from sc category can I get admission in IIT madras for Mtech if not plz suggest IIT s for admission

Swati Umang 23rd Feb, 2020

Hello! Hope you are doing good

Gate scores are dependent on the highest and lowest marks and thus are subject to variation every year. Its very unpredictable az to whether or not one will get a college. According to the previous years trends, you can apply for IIT Roorkee, IIT- BHU and many other good IITs. IIT - Madras may still be a bit too doubtful.

Please click the following link to know more about the cutoff trends: https://www.google.com/amp/s/engineering.careers360.com/articles/gate-cutoff-for-ce/amp

All the best

Can I get not so opted courses in IITs with 520 score in Gate civil engineering?

Sharon Rose Student Expert 18th Feb, 2020
Hello,
You have not mentioned your category we may help you if you tell us your category. So assuming that you belong to general category you may get the following IITs considering 2019 cut off trends
  • IIT, Bombay: water resource Engineering and ocean engineering

The cut off was 500 for the above mentioned courses. So there are chances of getting a seat in IIT, Bombay. However, cut off is subjected to change it may increase or decrease slightly.
