Can general engineering diploma students gat admission in NIT or IIIT in first year by jee mains entrance exam

Sree 1st Feb, 2024

While diploma holders cannot directly enter NITs or IIITs through JEE Mains in the first year, there are options! Some institutes offer lateral entry to the second year based on separate exams, and diploma holders can also apply as fresh candidates with their JEE Mains score. Additionally, many other engineering colleges accept diploma holders through various avenues. Explore these options and check individual institute websites for specific details and procedures.

Is a pharmacy graduate have an advantage over general engineering graduate or they come under GEM for IIMs ? do i have a chance to get IIM ABC with 90 plus percent in graduation, 94 percent in 10 and 79 percent in 12 if i m a b pharm students

Sudip Bandopadhyay 5th Jul, 2022

Hello Rohan,

Hope you are going great!

To answer your question, you do not come under GEM (General, Engineer, Male) category, as you are a pharma student.

And obviously, you do have a change to get into IIM A/B/C, with good extra-curricular, and co-curricular. IIM's are trying to diversify, and you do stand a chance to get into them.

Best of luck!

I have scored 97.36 percentile in CAT 2021 with sectional (99/95/83) (VA/DI/QA) and I am from General engineering male category , what are my chances in getting a call from NITIE mumbai

keshav kumar 8th Feb, 2022

Hi,

Hope you are doing great.

Yes, you do hold a good chance of getting a call from NITIE. Because if we see the previous year's cut-off, we get to know that the cut-off usually varies from 96-97 percentile. But for shortlisting the candidates for the GDPI process academic performance and diversity( whether it is gender or academic) also come into the picture. So, let's just hope for the best.

I am a general engineering male currently in my 3rd year of engineering at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. I am thinking of doing MBA and want to know what colleges I can get. My 10th % = 93.8% ; 12th % = 82.46 and my college CGPA till 6th sem would be around 8.2. Can I get into any IIMs?

Abhishek Roy 22nd Jun, 2021

Yes, definitely you have fair chances of securing a place among IIMs, having a somewhat good academic record as well as a strong current scorecard at VIT. Just focus on CAT Preparation and target none less than 99 Percentile, being from General Category or perhaps even higher incase youre targeting the Top 6 IIMs. You must even apply for other Management Examinations like XAT, NMAT, SNAP, which too are gateways to some of the Good Management Institutes.

hi,

see cutoff score changes every year and it depends on the questions difficulty level, seat matrix, number of participants etc, now there is also sectional cutoff for verbal quant and reasoning, for general candidates more than 95 percentile is necessary to get top iims calls, you may follow the below link to know past years cutoff of cat,
