Is MSc Biomedical Genetics more interesting and useful than MSc Biotechnology if you want to be in research field of Genetics?

Hello,

First of All you must understand the basic difference between M.Sc Biomedical Genetics and M.Sc Biotechnology.

M.Sc Biomedical Biotechnology- In this course, you will study about both Biology and Chemistry at an advanced level. This course is to study living organism to produce Bio- Products to make medicines. Genetics is just a part of this course.

M.Sc Genetics- In this course, you will study only about genetics. You will study about the genetic level of various living organisms. You will get to know the various techniques of experiment related to genetics. This course is totally based on Genetics.

Genetics has played a vital role in identifying such diseases for human survival. Various fatal disorders are existed in human due to imbalance of chromosome number. These lead to malfunctioning or death of an individual. Genetics can help us to understand why people look the way they do and why some people are more prone to certain diseases than others. Genetics can help health-care professionals to identify certain conditions in babies before they are born using techniques such as prenatal testing.

See any course in Genetics will be valuable in the future since there is a lot to know about this courses which is at the end is a very important instrumental for Genetical Analysis of diseases and for genetical predictions and other developments going on in this fields. So doing a course in Genetical sciences can be a good choice for you. But not only a BSc will be sufficient for a considerably good career but you have to at least go for MSc to contribute in the field.

As per the internet research and data available, a BSc Medical Genetics student can earn around Rs.1.5LPA to 3 LPA.

Students having PCB or PCM both are eligible for this course.

After completing Btech in Biotechnology, Can a student go for MSc in Biotechnology or Genetics or Microbiology ?

Hello,

Candidate can apply for admissions in M.Sc Biotechnology course based on their performance in the JAM.  Also, other entrance exams to get admission in this course are JNUCEEB, GATE etc. The eligibility conditions which the aspirants need to fulfill in order to pursue M.Sc Biotechnology are:

  • candidates have to complete graduation in B.Sc Agricultural Sciences with Life Science subjects such as one among Biochemistry, Biotechnology,  Botany, Zoology or Microbiology.
  • Also, candidates have t score minimum of 55% marks to be qualified in some recognized university's graduation exam.
  • Candidates who are currently appearing for the qualifying exam are also eligible to apply for M.Sc in Biotechnology.

Also, the eligibility criteria for MSc Genetics is that the candidates should have completed B.Sc. under any registered university in respective subjects like Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or Life Sciences and Biomedical Sciences in Science stream. Also, the minimum percentage of marks required differs from college to college.

Bachelor of Science in Genetics is a 3 year undergraduate degree divided into 6 semesters. The main idea behind this course study is to get the experience of variation and heredity in living bodies.

To be eligible to take admission in this course is that you must pass your 10+2 in PCM/ PCB subjects from a recognised board or institution.

The top entrance exams for admission in this course is GSAT and DUET. One of the good college to take admission for this course in The Indian Institute of Planning and Management.
