You can appear for GATE exam. PSU interviews are not concerned about how many backlogs you have, unless they are cleared before you attend the interview with minimum 60% marks or equivalent points on CGPA scale, in aggregate of all Semesters (relaxed to minimum 50% marks for SC/ST/PWD
You can prefer GATE Lecturer of NPTEL, GATE Academy, My Academy etc. for GATE Entrance Exam preparation. You can also refer the below given article for the exam preparation.

You can give GATE unlimited times, but every result of each attempt is valid for 3 years only after its result date. But there is No limit on the number of attempts for anyone.

If You score among top100 then only there are chances of getting into PSUs because the First choice is PSUs and NOT MTech, Even If you are able to take admission at IIT, PSU is a better option over that. Unless you are aiming for full-time research in

Admissions into NITs on the basis of GATE score is done through CCMT. Allotment will be done according to merit and preference of seats. The admission process into NITs through CCMT is as given below:
