GATE is comparably more tough than MS. This doesn't mean that MS is easy but it is not as difficult as GATE because GATE are conducted by IITs and these institutes does not take children easily.

To start preparation from the second year Graduation will help you focus on the basic concepts & In first two years of engineering you are new to subjects and you need time to cope up with the concepts. Coming to third year you will be familiar with the engineering concepts

The main process is to shortlist the GATE eligibled candidaties
the GATE score for DRDO is 80% of GATE score is required and other 20 % is for personal interview
qualifing the personal interview 70% for general and 60 % for all catagories
