Regardless of your category, you will be able to attempt GATE if you meet the eligibility criteria set by the examination authorities. The registration process for this session is unfortunately over, however, you can apply next year. For more information, you can read GATE.
You can give Gate exam in any specialization but this is up to the institute which specialization they allow to be changed as all colleges have their own criteria so please tell which one you are asking about?
