Most of the IITs require your score to be around 760 to have a fair chance and since your score is 553, it will be difficult. Since you have not specified the branch you wish to apply for, we are unable to narrow for you any further than what we have stated.  However, we suggest you log into those IITs and there are some not so in demand courses that may appeal to you.

According to the official website http://gmchassam.gov.in/# , GMC Guwahati has an annual intake of 200. 15% of the seats are filled through All India Counselling and 85% of the seats are filled through State Counselling. 60% of the seats in Assam are set aside for the General Category. Going by that formula, approximately 120 seats are filled with General Category Students. You will need atleast 550-600 for a seat in this College going by previous year cut offs. You need to check that while filling the exam form if the study centre where you want to appear for exam is there in the list or not, it it's there you can go ahead with the choice, it's not going to matter if regional centre vary, you can give exam anywhere among the list of options available for exam centre.
