what is the eligibility and critera if in future i want to be in iaf.

Smeet Almeida 23rd May, 2020

Greetings, aspirants!

IAF or Indian Air Force provide opportunities for candidates in multiple ways. Depending on the department you wish to join, there are several ways to join the IAF. These departments include:-

  • Flying Branch (further divded into fight pilot branch, helicopter branch and transport branch)
  • Ground Duty (technical) Branch which consists of control tower operations and coordination with pilots
  • Ground Duty (non technical) Branch which consists of Administration, Education, Logistics and Medical fields.

You can apply to be a part of the IAF after you pass your 10th grade, 10+2, graduation or post graduation as well.

There are various posts in the Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) varying from cooking and stenography to mechanics and content assistance. Candidates that have finished their 10th or 10+2 can apply for these posts.

A candidate can also join the IAF through the National Defence Academy (NDA) by passing their qualifying examinations and interviews conducted by the UPSC.

A graduate can appear for the CDS (Common Defence Services) test held by the UPSC. Besides, there's also AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) through which candidates can apply and join the IAF. After a candidate is selected in this test, they undergo a year of training until they're posted as officers.

A Post graduate can join ground duty branches as well. In these cases having a degree in Aeronautical Engineering tremendously reflects on their job profile.

Apart from these conventional methods, one can join the IAF through NDC or National Cadet Corps as well. In order to do so, one must finish their training with at least a C grade in the air wing of NCC.

Hope this information helped you!

Best of luck!!
