JoSAA follows top to bottom approach,that is your first preference is checked first then second,then third wherever a seat is available that seat is fixed without checking the bottom options.If you want to go for lower branches then you should place them first in order of preference.

Your rank is quite good, not sure about prepaaratiry course but you may get some btech degree course or 5 years integrated course at some Iit like
