can a person who draws traditionaly can become a illustrator

RAJIV TIWARI 26th Apr, 2025

Hello Kuzuki Arts,

Absolutely, YES — a person who draws traditionally can definitely become an illustrator!

In fact, many great illustrators started with traditional drawing skills — pencil, pen, watercolor, sketching, all of it.
Illustration simply means creating visuals that tell a story, explain an idea, or decorate something — and it doesn't have to be digital at first.

The main thing is:

  • You already have the artistic foundation (lines, shapes, shading, proportions).

  • To work professionally today, learning some digital tools (like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Procreate) will help you present your work better.

  • But your core skill drawing — is the most important thing. Software is just a new pen .

So yes, with some practice in digital mediums (even just using a basic tablet or an iPad), a traditional artist can become a brilliant illustrator.

Hope that helps...

hi , i am a Beginner which should i prefer 1. Adobe illustrator 2 Inkspace please ?

piyush singh 15th Jan, 2022

Hello Aspirant ,

For a beginner Inkscape is the answer as it is a free and open source software and the features are almost same as that of Adobe Illustrator , Adobe Illustrator is a very expensive software and costs around $ 21 per month which will be around 240$ per year both apps have tons of users and a very large forum .

If you have money then you should go for Illustrator as it has plenty of free tutorials and course which a beginner needs.

Hope this helps.
