DISCUSS THE INFLUENCE OF GEOGRAPHY ON INDIAN CULTURE

Disha Arora 27th Jul, 2020

Hi

As per your question the geography does influence the culture of a neighborhood . as an example ,

people dwelling in coastal regions generally consume tons of rice and fish while those within the

hinterland consume pulses and cereals/millets. this is often due to easy availability and suitability to the

regional geographical conditions.

The effects of geography on culture are often understood from the subsequent correlation as an

example.

Hills and mountains - generally , they act as a physical barrier between the 2 regions. Until very recently,

they restricted the movements of the people. The restricted movement compelled them to follow

different culture and it also prohibited the intermixing of two different cultures. for instance , the

Vindhyan ranges act because the north-south cultural divide in India. we will see that north to Vindhyan,

there's a dominance of Hindi language, whereas, towards the south, there's a good range of linguistic

diversity like Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam then on.

Climatic conditions - generally , climate determines the food habits, clothing, immunity against certain

quite diseases, etc. for instance , people living in tropical regions mostly wear half sleeves cloths [lungi

and mostly white shirt in India] as against the person living within the sub-polar region who wear fully

sleeves cloths. Similarly, within the subtropical regions [mostly northern states in India], the crop like

wheat is cultivated while within the tropical region [southern states], the crops like rice and coconut are

cultivated on large scale.

It is a well known incontrovertible fact that most of the inventions were done by Europeans and

Americans. Ever wondered how? there's one geographical reason behind it aside from the host of other

factors. within the sub-polar and polar region, the length of day/night is extremely long. It lasts up to six

months. In such a climatic condition, it doesn't encourage the person to roam around, it keeps him

locked inside the house. Such conditions are suitable to try to to research which ideally demands tons of

your time .

Similarly, there are many such geographical influences on culture. in additional or less manner, the

people within the particular region becomes adaptable to regional geographic conditions with time.
