What is the pension amount of an IFS officer after retirement?

The overall salary of an IFS officer is 60,000 per month.Moreover,they are provided with several benefits like accomodation, transportation, medical expenses and much more.On the other hand,a government servant enjoys a pension and many retirement benefits.Also,based on the country the officer's pay package can also get increased.In this case,the salary can go as high as 2.4 lakhs.Also,the highest position on can attain is of the ambassador or the foreign secretary.If one retire under the rules and have qualifying service of 10 years,the pension is calculated @50% of last pay or average emoluments(ie. Average of the basic pay drawn by the one during tha last 10 months of his service) whichever is more beneficial.Guaranteed minimum pension is Rs 9000 per month.Maximum limit on pension is Rs 1,25,000 per month.Pension is payable upto and including tha day of death.

What is the duration of Home leave provided for IFS officers once in a tenure of 3 years?

If you want a full time home leave after one tenure then it can be sanctioned by your seniors in a time period of 2-3 months and can be extended for 15 days from the end date of allotted leave.

Although this rules can change depending on the situation and requirement of officers but in general this is the regulation (as per the information available online)

What is the leave policies of a IFS officer?

Hi,

Every IFS officer gets 30 days of Earned Leave + 8 days of Casual Leave + 2 days of Restricted Holiday leave when in India and when abroad in addition he gets 15 days of extra leave.


The Officer with family can visit India twice in a term of 3 years posting generally on Government expense with some exceptions like in some of the non-family stations he can visit every year.


Yes he can avail of study leave to attend such seminars or any training while continuing to draw the salary. Study leave can be availed of in India as well as abroad for a total of 2 years in the entire service of the Officer.

IFS officer usually retires in the age of 60 years although there can be extension procedures as per the foreign ministry guidelines if the officer will be helpful for any situation in building strategy of the nation. Such extensions are a maximum of 5 years.

Now if you want to know about the work duration during the service period then it depends on the situation and international relations with the country you are in. For any emergency situation the working hour may increase, but in general IFS officers usually work for 7-8 hours depending on the work load.

Will all the IFS officers get posted abroad?

See in the starting years of the career of an IFS, they are posted in the embassy's of different countries. Usually these postings are of 3-5 years tenure and after this tenure the officer is posted again to any other country. For the first 15 years of the service, IFS officers are posted in embassies. After that based on the performance, many officers becomes bureaucrat in Ministry of Foreign Affairs or in PM Office. So it depends on performance of a officer but in general as the officer gains experience they are usually asked to do job in administrative sector of international relations.

What is the salary of IFS officer with 10-15 years of experience?

Hello Aspirant,

The salary of IFS officers depends upon the ranks which are discussed as follows:(These are mentioned from lowest to highest ranks)

  1. JUNIOR TIME SCALE -  work as Under Secretary and basic pay is INR 8000 TO 14000.
  2. SENIOR TIME SCALE - work as Under Secretary and basic pay is INR 10650 to 16000.
  3. JUNIOR ADMINISTRATIVE- work as Deputy Secretary and basic pay is INR 12750 to 17000.
  4. SELECTION GRADE - work as Counselor Director and basic pay is INR 15100 to 18000.
  5. The officer at Senior administrative level will join as Joint Secretary and the basic pay is around 18400 to 22500.
  6. Officer at High Commissioner Ambassador level will work as Foreign secretary and will not receive any pay.

The IFS salary overall is around 60,000 per month including all the allowances depending upon the ranks. But this salary depends upon the postings and that is if the selected candidate has posting in foreign country he/she may receive a salary of 2.4 lakh under special foreign allowance which depends upon the country you are posted in.
