What is the eligibility criteria for CAT?

shivamtrivedi0005 10th Sep, 2023

Hii There,

The eligibility criteria for CAT typically include the following:

  1. Educational Qualification: CAT applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university or institution, regardless of their field of study. The required minimum aggregate score typically falls in the range of 50% to 55% for general category candidates. However, these criteria may change from year to year and among different institutions. Therefore, it is recommended that candidates consult the official CAT website or the websites of participating management institutes for the most current eligibility details.

  2. Age Limit: The CAT exam does not impose any specific age restrictions, making candidates of all age groups eligible to apply.

  3. Nationality: CAT is open to both Indian citizens and foreign nationals. Non-resident Indians (NRIs) and foreign applicants may have additional eligibility conditions, such as providing GMAT scores, depending on the specific management institutes they are interested in.

  4. Number of Attempts: There are no restrictions on the number of times a candidate can take the CAT exam.

Thanks

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is one of the most important component to get admission in any IIMs. In order to get admission in IIMs, you must obtain a good percentile in the CAT. There is no specific percentile stated by the IIMs which will give you a 100% WATPI shortlist.

However, every IIM has specified a minimum overall and sectional percentile which you must obtain in order to get eligible to get a WATPI shortlist. Even scoring that minimum percentile in the CAT will not give you a guarantee to get an interview call as it depends upon various factors.

IIMs give consideration to a number of factors while giving an interview call. These factors include CAT score, Class 10, Class 12, and Bachelor's degree marks, work experience, academic, and gender diversity, etc. Your first priority should be to clear both the overall and sectional percentile in the CAT as stated by the individual IIM for the SC category candidates.

The CAT score is not the only criteria but is one of the major criteria for admission. The cutoffs might be lower for SC category candidates. As you belong to the reserved category, there is a good chance that you might get a WATPI shortlist if you perform well in the CAT. Your priority should be to maximize your CAT score and percentile.

The marks obtained by you in Class 10, Class 12, and Graduation, work experience, and academic diversity will play a major role to get a shortlist for the WATPI process along with the CAT score, and your performance in the WATPI round will play a major role during your final selection.
