If I gave 12th this year and scored 70% and took a drop for giving jee next year and cbse improvement exam next year through cbse private candidate....if I am able to improve by score by 90% ...will this improved 12th marks be considered in Application rating of top IIM A,B,C???

Ankur Mehta 27th Sep, 2025

Yes, if you appear for the CBSE improvement exam as a private candidate and score higher marks, then the latest marksheet will be considered as your valid Class 12th result. For IIM A, B, C and other top IIMs, they look at the final updated marksheet that you present at the time of admission.

So, if you improve your percentage from 70% to 90%, then definitely the improved score will be counted in your profile evaluation. Just make sure you give the exam through the official CBSE improvement route and keep the valid documents.

How much percentile is required for IIM A/B/C or FMS for this profile. 10th- 92 percent 12th- 93 percent Masters - 8.3 (cgpa) (completed in June 2025 Work ex- 0 Catagory - SC

Ankur Mehta 23rd Aug, 2025

Hey Ramesh! Looking at your profile—10th: 92%, 12th: 93%, Master’s CGPA: 8.3, no work experience, SC category—you have a solid academic record. For top IIMs like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta, SC category candidates usually need a CAT percentile of around 92–94 to have a realistic chance at admission. Other IIMs like Lucknow, Indore, Kozhikode may require slightly higher percentiles, around 94–96. For FMS Delhi, SC candidates typically need 95+ percentile.

Remember, these percentiles are approximate and can vary slightly each year depending on the competition and number of seats. Sectional cut-offs also matter, so make sure to perform well in all sections of CAT. Since you have no work experience, your academic record will carry more weight, which is in your favor. My suggestion is to aim for 95+ percentile to keep your options open across IIMs and FMS. Also, consider applying to other top MBA colleges alongside, to maximize your chances. With focused preparation, your profile is competitive for SC category seats.

Hi Im from sc category Im pwd candidate minimum percentile for iim a,b,c call and minimum percentile for guarantee admission.

Yash Teotia 14th Aug, 2025

Hi Lokendra

As you are from SC category and also a PWD candidate, your chances of getting a call from IIM A,B,C will be very good at 60 - 65 percentile. The official minimum percentile required for your category (cutoff) is 50 percentile but the safe percentile for getting a call from IIM ABC is 65 percentile. The safe percentile to guarantee your admission would be 80 percentile.

Hope this answer helps! Thank You!!!

Hi I belong to sc category . Im also pwd candidate. So what is minimum percentile for call and minimum percentile for guarantee admission in IIM a,b,c.

SHUBHANGI SINHA 17th Aug, 2025

Hello,

Depending on the IIM, SC or PWD candidates minimal percentile for an IIM call typically falls between 50 and 70. Generally speaking, a percentile score of 80 or more is seen as a safe bet for admission assurance. However, various IIMs and even different years for the same IIM may have varying cut offs and admission chances.

GEM (Tier 2 Engineering College) 10th - 98 12th - 96 Graduation - 84 No work ex - Just 8 months Apprentice Minimum Percentile for IIM A/B??? And is it worth it working that hard just to try getting in without work ex or should I wait? (Got a Job Offer but only targeting Management Consulting)

gopi 25th Apr, 2025

Hello Aspirant,

  1. Minimum Percentile for IIM A/B: While there isn't a specific percentile to guarantee you admission to IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Bangalore, a 99+ percentile CAT score is typically deemed competitive at these schools in particular for GEM candidates. The percentile is only one consideration alongside your academic history, experience and other accomplishments, so the required percentile is variable.
  2. Is it worth trying without work experience - It is possible for you to get into IIMs with no work experience; however, preferably in particular for IIM A/B, candidates typically have gained work experience along with 2+ other years in the workplace when they apply for an MBA. These colleges want candidates to demonstrate real-world experiences where they were impactful, have taken on leadership roles etc. In other words, if your goal is Management Consulting, the experience in your current job offer will provide you with solid practical experience and credibility to apply later.
  3. Should wait or go ahead with job offer - If Management Consulting is your goal, the real value of the job offer is through the work experience. Over the long term, securing work experience through the job offer is valuable and beneficial to your profile. IIMs really appreciate a mix of academic performance, experience in the workforce and individuals who demonstrate past leadership potential to make the jump into an MBA. Besides, if you take the job, it also gives you time to stretch your mind to determine if management consulting is really what you want to do with your life before you apply for an MBA.

Can I get into IIM A PGPX with 2 years work ex?

Sakshi Badoni 7th Jan, 2025

Hello Greetings

The IIM Ahmedabad PGPX program is designed for experienced professionals, and the average work experience of admitted students is around 6-7 years . While it's not explicitly stated that 2 years of work experience is insufficient, the program's focus on experienced professionals suggests that more work experience may be beneficial.

That being said, the admissions process for PGPX considers various factors, including:

- *GMAT/GRE scores*: A good score can strengthen your application.

- *Personal interview*: This is an opportunity to showcase your skills, experience, and fit with the program.

- *Professional achievements*: Demonstrated achievements and impact in your career can be advantageous.

- *Diversity and inclusivity*: IIM Ahmedabad values diversity and inclusivity, so your unique background and experiences can be beneficial.

If you're interested in applying with 2 years of work experience, it's essential to highlight your achievements, skills, and potential for growth. Ensure your application showcases your strengths and demonstrates how the PGPX program aligns with your career goals.

Keep in mind that admission to IIM Ahmedabad's PGPX program is competitive, and meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission.

Have a great day

My name is Kusum and I am in 1st year of BBA. My dream is to do MBA from IIM Ahmedabad but my financial condition is not good and due to that I am not able to join coaching classes. No one in my family is educated enough to ask for guidance. I thought I would do self-study, But I dont even know how

Deepti Singh 4th Jan, 2025

Hello,

Kusum, it's great that you're determined to pursue your dream of an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad despite financial challenges. Here's a strategy for self-study:

  • Understand the Exam Structure : Familiarize yourself with the CAT exam pattern, which includes sections on Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability, and Logical Reasoning.
  • Create a Study Plan : Allocate specific hours each day for each section, focusing on weak areas. Break it into manageable chunks.
  • Use Free Resources : There are plenty of free online resources that include YouTube channels, CAT preparation websites, and apps for practice questions with video tutorials. Some popular ones are Unacademy, BYJU's, and Career Launcher.
  • Take Mock Tests Regularly : Use mock tests regularly to assess progress and adjust study plans accordingly.
  • Focus on Concepts : Strong foundations in math, logic, and English. Regular practice with books like "Quantitative Aptitude for CAT" and "Word Power Made Easy" for vocabulary.

Consistency and discipline are the keys! Stay motivated, and you can achieve your goal.

Hello sir I hope you are doing good. I scored 92.4%ile in CAT exam GEN Male 9 CGPA in 10th class CBSE 65.7% in 12th Punjab Board 65.2% in Bsc. Botany from Punjab Agricultural University 34 months work ex. Do I have any chance in any IIM or IIT and IIMA FABM and IIML ABM Program

Prachi Kumari 26th Dec, 2024

Hello,

Based on the details you provided, here is an assessment:

  1. IIMs (General Category) :

    • IIMA (FABM) : Your 92.4%ile in CAT is competitive, but for IIMA FABM, which focuses on agricultural business management, your BSc. Botany background might help, though the cutoff for FABM is typically around 95-96%ile. However, if you have strong academic performance in other areas (work ex, 10th/12th), there might be a chance for shortlisting in the interview round.
    • IIML (ABM) : With your work experience and background, IIM Lucknow's ABM program (Agriculture Business Management) could be a strong option, as the cutoff for this program is generally around 90-92%ile, and your CAT score is close to this threshold.
  2. IITs :

    • You may have a better shot in IITs like IIT Kharagpur (for MBA in Agri-Business), as their cutoff is typically lower than IIMs, especially with work experience.
  3. Improvement Areas :

    • Focus on your CAT score improvement or interview prep to bolster your chances further.

Hope it helps !
