Yes it is compulsory for IIT JAM exam chemistry .If it is in syllabus but chemistry have numerical parts which are mathematics only ,Without mathematics there is no science .

As per the previous year cutoff, Based on this score the chances are less to get a seat in IITs, None of NIT offer Biotechnology programme. You can also check the previous year to go through with the given below link.

see while studying msc course in nits, you may again appear in iit jam , however if you get iit in second time you need to study from the first year, and your one year study in nit will not count. and it will count as a year gap.

For a gate score of 402 your rank must be greater than 7.5k which is not good at all specially if you are a general candidate. I don't think you can get any IIT/NIT/IIIT not even DTU or NSIT at this rank. You can try for post
