Congratulations to your friend as being under top 5000 in JEE ADVANCED definitely is not an easy task. You surely can get some decent IIT,though not the top IITs. Just think of what branch you want to pursue. Please decide on your branch very carefully.

If your rank is 1500 then it is very good rank and you will definitely good IIT and good branch .

If you are from general category and this is your general rank then sorry to say that you will not get admission in any IIT because your rank is too high.For getting admission in IIT your rank should be under 10000.

I am sorry but I think that your rank is way too high to get admission to any preparatory course in any of the IITs. If you have decent marks in JEE Main then try for some NIT/IIIT or you can take a drop for a year and try again
