Hello sir , My iit jam 2019 biological sciences rank 2534 .please tell me I can admission msc

Sayam Smruti 24th Mar, 2019

Hello Prashant,

First of all congratulations for clearing IIT JAM, but as per the stream of biological sciences is concerned, there are a very few IITs which have biological sciences, there is an equivalent competition for the same. Hence it is very difficult to get selected in any IIT for MSc. But i would like you to apply in different NITs and IISERs where there is a chance of getting selected based on your rank. According to the last year cut off, you can shortlist a couple of NITs, IISERs and appear for the counselling. Again i would say that the admission is completely unpredictable as it depends on the ranking, past cut off, students applied for the current year and many other factors. Still, it is worth trying.

Next thing you can do is apply for different central universities as well, you have to write a separate exam for that but chances of getting a good institute is all that matters.

I hope this helps you. Good Luck!

Sir I have not taken mathematics as my 12th board examination subject. Does 12th cutoff percentage includes mathematics?

Kamal Kant 20th Mar, 2019

Hey Aspirant, Admission in IISER(Indian Institute of Science Education and research ) is given via 3 channels you must meet the requirement of at least one of them in order to get the admission.

The three channels are:

  • Jee channel: admission is given on the basis of rank secured in Jee mains
  • KVPY channel: admission is given on the basis of KVPY fellowship and cutoff of marks in KVPY
  • SCB channel: Candidates have to appear for IISER aptitude test for admission.

This Aptitude test is of 3 hours and consists of Multiple choice questions from four subjects of equal weightage namely Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology of total 180 marks.

You will have to study maths on your own or separately if you want to get a good score.

For SCB channel, candidates have to qualify the aptitude test. After that, students will be called for counselling on the basis of cut off marks.

The cut off percentage for SCB channel varies from state to state. As you asked for Andhra Pradesh it is somewhere around 94-95 percent.

What percentage required apply for iiser test?

Debosmitha Bhattacharyya Student Expert 22nd Apr, 2019

Hello Pooja,

If you are joining through state and central board (PCB) stream, You need to be in the top 1% of your respective board. So the cutoff percentage varies accordingly. You can check the cutoff score at the website. Cbse board is usually around 95%.

After you have cleared the cutoff score you need to give an aptitude test and qualify that too.

For admission to engineering programmes through JEE advanced channel, candidates who have secured 75% marks (GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL) or 65% marks (SC/ST/PWD) in their Class XII (or equivalent) exams are also eligible for IISER test.

Good luck!

What are the admission criteria for admission to IISER BS or MS courses? Are these courses advisable for girls ?

Prabhakar Pradeep 22nd Apr, 2019

Hey Raj,

For masters, there are two programs in IISER, One is Integrated BS-MS and the second is Integrated Ph.D.

1. To get Admission in the Integrated BS-MS program, you have to have passed 12th with science stream having any one subject or both Mathematics and Biology. A five-year program without any exit option with a Bachelor's degree. you get either Masters or Nothing.

2. For Int PhD (Int. MS-Ph.D), You have to have had a Bachelor's degree in Science and related areas with a minimum of 60% or equivalent, and then only you can apply for it, there is an exit option, if you wish, after the MS. Selection is made by a written aptitude test followed by an Interview.
