Both are good. As you know one is a Government institution and another one is private . Both are equally well institutes. Now it depends on you which stream you want to pursue. So choose accordingly.

Both the above mentioned colleges have great teaching faculty. They have qualified and trained teachers only difference is in the placements IEM Kolkata has better placements 

You actually have to try for Private Engineering Colleges of West Bengal since Government Engineering Colleges close seat allocation at much lower ranks.
