The scope of interior designing is:

  • You can start your own designing firm. People today keep renovating their offices and home very often and there are multiple new spcaes such as restaurants, school, new houses which need a touch of perfection which is brought through by a professional interior designer. The place you will be working will be yours and thus you will have flexible work hours and you will have the freedom to experiment with your creativity based on your clients needs. 
  • You can work in a design firm or under a reputed designer. This will provide you with the necessary experience and connections, this will help you rise in this industry. Alongwith this you will have multiple people working with you and thus there will be great exchange of ideas and creativity. You will master other skills like team spirit, patience and perseverence.
  • You can make your name in the furniture field. Furniture in itself is vast and has a lot of potential. You will gain knowledge about the fine nuances and intricacies of furniture and apply it in order to provide your client with the best of his demands. You can start your own furniture boutique.
  • You can become a product designer if you have an eye for artistic artefacts and pieces and have an idea about what will spacially and aesthetically look good when placed in a provided space. They design products ranging from clocks, carpets, curtains, lights, home decor, furnishing to showpieces and artefacts. They have an idea about multiple objects, materials and how and where they will stand out. 
  • You can work as a graphic designer, designing advertisements and hoardings. If you are good with tools like Photoshop, Corel, Indesign etc. you can get in this line of work.
  • You can even go for set and stage design. There are multiple events for which temporary sets are needed to be made like award ceremonies, movie shoots, parties, weddings, concerts, TV series. This is a very lucrative field. 
  • Temporary Interior designer of model apartments is also a very famous and in demand field. There is huge demand of interior designers in this field.
  • You can become a portfolio or model maker under an aechitect, graphic designer, photographer, fashion designer etc. This is a very creative and artsy field. You have flexible hours and freedom to use your creativity the way you wish to.

Below are  a few Institutes in Hyderabad offering interior design courses  as Bachelor's or as Diploma programme.

1.National Institute of Fashion Technology, [NIFT] Hyderabad

Duration: 4 year course,  Entrance Exam Required: NIFT

Course Fees: Rs. 6.35 Lacs

Infrastructure: The Centre is established in May ’1999. The campus is located at Madhapur, Hyderabad.  There are two blocks – Institutional buildings – accommodate class-rooms, studios, workshops, resource Centre, IT-Lab, Administration, Canteen, etc. fully equipped to provide learning environment to the students. Along with sports and recreational activities there is counselling service provided  to students.

Placement : At the end of the 6th semester, students are required to take a summer internship under the desired designer or import/export house at NIFT.The duration of the internship is 2 months and it gives students the necessary exposure of the industry work culture.

At the end of the fourth year, there are on-campus placements where biggest garment companies such a Madura and Arvind come in, some small companies from places like tirupur with average package of 4.25 Lacs.

2.Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University

Eligibility:  For Bachelor in Design, 12th pass and have passed Entrance test taken by University itself. 

Average Package- 4.5 Lacs and Highest Package is Rs. 6 Lacs.

Fees: 1.24 Lacs, Rs. 45000 Per year

3. Hamstech Institute of Fashion and Interior Design, Hyderabad

Diploma in Interior Design is a two-year duration full-time course and B.Des.in interior is 4 year course. Both impart basic skills and awareness in the general and professional aspects of interior design.

CAREER PROSPECTS AND JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Diverse job opportunities exist in front of interior design professionals. They may either choose to work under supervised setup (Design studios and Interior design firms) or work independently. Admission Criteria: open to 12 standard students, All India Examination, Studio Test and Interview.
