IIT dont have lateral entry scheme so why to waste your time instead Complete your diploma and then go for GATE entrance

If i give jee mains 1st attempt and it goes good with a good rank and if i give jee mains second attempt and jee advanced but unfortunately if i could not clear both advanced and second attempt will my first attempt gets wasted? plz answer this i have this doubt for a long time
