Yes you can give both JEE mains and JEE Advanced in the same year. Actually you are supposed to give JEE mains and JEE Advanced in the same year. Only if you get the required cut off in the JEE main you can give JEE advanced. The National Testing

Admissions to both NITs and IITs take place on JOSAA portal after the conclusion of JEE Advanced result. Additionally IITs don't have any spot round since seats get filled completely by Round 6. NITs/IIEST Shibpur/IIITs have an extra round of CSAB after the conclusion of JOSAA counselling.
