is there any course related to graduate of marine engineering

deyrajibkumar24 27th Oct, 2020

Graduate Marine Engineering or in short GME is a one year course which has to be done by a MECHANICAL ENGINEER GRADUATE, if he/she wants to pursue a career in the MERCHANT NAVY. This GME course is a residential course which is covered up in 2 semester. If any student from the mechanical engineering background fails to secure a job on land he/she can try to make a career at sea by doing the GME as the first step. Some DG Shipping Approved Institutes which offer GME are-

1. Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy, Maharashtra.

2. Marine Engineering Training Institute (Cochin Shipyard), Kochi ( Sponsorship is must here for every student before the course commences)

3. Maritime Foundation, Chennai.

4.Garden Reach Ship Builders and Engineers Ltd, Kolkata.

5.Mangalore Marine College, Mangalore.

In today's job market scenario, getting a sponsorship prior to getting admitted into GME course is a mandatory step. Even if you don't get a sponsor company, after GME you can approach many shipping companies for selecting you on the basis of you skill.

I have to study coastal side like marine engineering, nautical science. How could I study?

Mohit Gupta 22nd Jul, 2020

Hello Aspirant

Degrees or diplomas in nautical science or marine engineering are two ways in which one can get a job as an officer on merchant ships. It is therefore extremely important that one knows in advance what field they are going to pursue and what job they would be doing later on while on the ship.

  • Admission to Diploma in Nautical Science course is based on Merit list or Entrance-exam. Most of the colleges and institutes conduct counseling and select students based on merit list prepared by the university. Some of the reputed colleges conduct entrance examination to select students for this course admission.
  • If you wish to prepare for Marine Engineering I suggest you apply for Tolani Maritime Institute, Pune. It is a industry reputed institute and offers a BITS degree. My friend is a TMI passout and passing through a good college later helps in getting a good placement.

I hope this information would be helpful for you.

All the best
