Can we change our preferences after release of first list of selected students by IMU?

Arya Razdan 4th Jul, 2019

Dear Aspirant

We understand your concerns. But , once you lock in your choice filling list of preferred colleges and their respective courses or the last date of choice filling passes, the list is the final list in accordance to which counselling takes place. You cannot change your submitted list once its done, especially after the completion of first round of seat allotment.

Hope this helps!!!

I got 12750 rank in AP eamcet , can i get Marine engineering seat in ANDHRA UNIVERSITY? I belong to SC Category.

raviteja katru 3rd Jul, 2019

Its hard to say but with this rank its very hard and the chances are nil to get Marine Engineering in Andhra University. Because the seats for Marine engineering is very low in all over Andhra Pradesh so, the competation is very tuff. So its better to apply MArine engineering in other colleges and safe put other branch options also because marine engineering seats are very low.

Is Marine engineering a good career option ? Can anyone say the course details and placement details with good colleges and the job options.

deyrajibkumar24 27th Oct, 2020

Marine engineering is a hardcore mechanical industry to work in. Anyone who likes field work can surely opt for this career. By  becoming a marine engineer, one can have the opportunity to work in the merchant vessels and can also work in the shipyards. The following link provides a good idea about this field of engineering- https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/marine-engineering-0

For becoming a successful marine engineer one can do the following courses-

1. BTech in Marine engineering- This is a 4 year course which is run by many maritime colleges in India both government and private. List of colleges along with the fees and entrance exams is given in the following link- https://engineering.careers360.com/colleges/list-of-be-btech-in-marine-engineering-colleges-in-india

2. DME- This is the course of 2 years. Diploma in marine engineering is for those students who have done diploma in mechanical engineering.

3. GME- Graduate Marine Engineer is a course which is done by those who are Mechanical Engineering Graduates.

Some colleges for pursuing GME are-

a) METI, CSL

b) Maritime Foundation, Chennai

c) Samundra Institute , Pune

Now for placement, one needs to posses a sponsorship from a shipping company otherwise it becomes difficult to get a job.

Once a marine engineer (fresher) becomes a chief engineer he/she opens new doors of opportunities of jobs on land. One can become a marine lecturer in any maritime institutes (full time or part time). Again their are many jobs in various shipping companies as Technical Superintendent , Surveyor etc. There are many government jobs also available.

I hope it helps.

Thank you
