If maths was your main subject,then how it is reflecting as optional! Contact your school or college and get it corrected. Although you will not face any problem in appearing for government examinations. But correct documents is needed.

If you are completed your Bsc course with Specialization in mathematics from University  Madras through distance education then there is no worry and it is not illegal because in India there are two types of Mode of education are provided like regular and distance so distance course

As you are weak in mathematics and want to further study medical, you should choose CBSE basic mathematics paper. Usually, the standard paper is chosen by the candidates who are going to study Non-medical in higher classes. So, you can go for basic mathematics paper.
