There is a basic difference between the two, i.e. MS is a science program and MTech is a technology program. Nowadays technology is more in use as technology is the future. You need a 3 years bachelor's degree to get into MS and a 4 year's bachelors degree for Mtech.

As of now gate in not offered in biomedical engineering. It is better for the students of biomedical to choose the subjects such as instrumentation engineering and electronics and communication engineering for giving away the gate exam.
